HICAP provides community education and counseling assistance with Medicare, Medi-Cal and related health insurance issues through advocacy or legal representation.

This alliance is a project of Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles. They assist residents with navigating the health care system.
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance): Long Term Disability pays benefits to you and certain members of your family if you are “insured,” meaning that you worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes.
SSI (Supplemental Security Income): Pays benefits based on financial need. SSI makes monthly payments to people who have low income and few resources and are age 65 or older, blind or disabled.
State Disability Insurance (SDI)
SDI (State disability insurance): Short Term Disability is available for up to 12 months; California SDI is
a partial wage-replacement insurance plan for California workers.
Covered California is the marketplace where Californians can purchase health insurance under the
Affordable Care Act.
Community Enhancement Services (CES)
This nonprofit organization assists people with education, training, employment services, naturalization and refugee services. Residents of Los Angeles County can apply for food, shelter, health care without having to visit a DPSS Office.
